Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy can be vulnerable and new, so it’s natural to be nervous. It can be difficult to allow yourself to become vulnerable as you imagine yourself opening up or crying in front of someone and talk about your past experiences. The fear around that can feel overwhelming. Taking steps to seek help for the challenges we face is a huge step. And although it’s normal to be nervous, that doesn’t make it feel great. It takes courage to continue towards getting the help you need.

Therapy is a space where you can be yourself and come just as you are, including feeling nervous. I’m committed to finding a way to care for your nervousness and ensure sessions are as comfortable as possible.

I’m here if you want to talk about it during a free phone consultation.

Online therapy is where you have access to therapy services via video calls through a secured platform that is HIPPA compliant so your information and your story stays private. This can be done in the comfort of your own home or from anywhere you feel comfortable as long as you have access to a laptop or smartphone. My services are offered across North Carolina so it makes getting the help you need more accessible and convenient. If you feel like I may be a good fit for you, get in touch today!

Take your time to read through my website. If you sense that I may be a good fit based on what you are reading, you can schedule yourself in my online scheduler.

During your free phone consultation, you can ask me how I work as a therapist, my approach, what a typical session with me is like, or any other questions you may have that are specific-to-you. You’ll also be able to share what’s going on for you and we can decide together how I can help.

The first sessions can continue to inform your decision. During the sessions, you’ll be able to see how you feel working with me. My approach is not going to work for everyone. What’s most important to me is that you find someone who you feel is the right fit for you. We can explore that together.

It’s natural to not want to share some of the painful or difficult things we’ve been through. During our sessions, I will never push you to talk about things that are too painful for you to talk about. It’s my job to give you space to slowly start to work through the tough stuff. Gradually and at a pace that feels comfortable to you, you can share what you feel ready to share.

You can also share with me that you are nervous to open up about something and we can talk about that too. Whatever is present for you. Whatever you are going through. Bring that to the session and we can explore that together.

If you open up to me, I will not think you are not normal. I will think you are someone who went through a lot. Many of my clients have had the same fear (that people would think they are not normal).

Working with my clients has shown me that the challenges you are facing are normal and natural.

You have nothing to be ashamed about. Nothing you can say will cause me to judge you.

I know nobody’s perfect, we all have our strengths and weaknesses, we may have normal reactions to abnormally challenging experiences.

Whatever it is you’re going through, I provide a calm space where you can feel heard and supported without judgement

It can be concerning feeling like things you say or do in therapy could “get out.” So I want you to know that unless you are in danger or someone else is, everything you share stays between you and me.

Your privacy and trust are of utmost importance.

You can rest assure that you can talk about anything without fear of that information getting out.

If you have specific questions about how confidentiality works, you can ask during your free phone consultation or anytime during our work together.

You might be asking about how long therapy will take because you are currently struggling and want relief fast.

If this is true for you, I want you to know that on average, my new clients start seeing small amounts of growth after the first 3-5 sessions in the traditional EMDR Therapy format.

By that point, they feel like they have learned some ways to manage some of the challenging stuff in their lives a bit better.

You can get even faster results with EMDR intensives because an intensive is like getting 3 sessions in half a day without having to come to therapy weekly or bi-weekly.

The total duration of therapy varies from client to client. Some of my clients find 6-12 weeks in the traditional EMDR therapy format or a half-day intensive or 2 half-day intensives to be enough to work through the deep issues that are holding them back. While other clients feel more supported by longer term therapy or ongoing intensive EMDR. We will work together to find the length of time that works for you.

Currently, hours are from 12pm to 7pm Monday-Thursday by appointment only.
