What to expect during an EMDR Therapy session:

EMDR therapy sessions are one-on-one with an EMDR-trained therapist and will be conducted through a secured telehealth video platform.

60 minute weekly session

Each session will begin with a 10-15 minute check-in. 35-45 minutes may be spent on developing resources, specific techniques and skills to help you regulate emotions, feelings, and/or body sensations and/or reprocessing a chosen target memory. The session will end with closing the session to contain emotions and body sensations that may need to be processed at a later time. This may take about 5-10 minutes to complete.

There are 8 phases to EMDR therapy treatment. The amount of time it takes to complete treatment varies from client to client depending on their history and window of tolerance. To learn more about the 8 phases of EMDR visit Experiencing EMDR Therapy | EMDR International Association

Research shows that talk-therapy can positively change your thinking, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. However, if you find that talk-therapy has not worked for you in the past or you don’t want to provide all the details about the distressing issue, EMDR therapy treatment may be for you. EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy is designed to allow the brain to resolve unprocessed distressing memories rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue. It can help you let go of what’s holding you back.

You may be struggling right now and it’s okay to ask for help. It’s possible to feel better.
